NIHR Reviews Ministry of Housing’s Efforts to Ensure Protection of the Right to Housing for Those Affected by the Iranian Attacks
As part of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) follow-up on the human rights implications arising from the Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the resulting damage to civilian infrastructure and residential areas, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), met with H.E. Ms. Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, in the presence of H.E. Ms. Fatima Ibrahim Al Mannai, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and a number of members of the Council of Commissioners.
During the meeting, NIHR reviewed a presentation delivered by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning on the efforts and measures undertaken to address the consequences of the Iranian attacks that targeted several residential areas and neighborhoods across the Kingdom of Bahrain. The presentation highlighted the Ministry’s role in responding to the needs of those affected and strengthening the protection of the right to housing for citizens and residents.
The presentation also addressed the measures implemented to ensure the continued provision of protection and support to affected groups, within the framework of adherence to international human rights standards and relevant national legislation, reflecting the Kingdom’s approach to safeguarding fundamental rights and enhancing humanitarian response during exceptional circumstances.
NIHR emphasized the importance of continued coordination among relevant authorities to monitor the human rights impacts resulting from these attacks and to strengthen measures aimed at protecting fundamental rights, foremost among them the right to safe housing, in a manner that contributes to mitigating the humanitarian consequences arising from the targeting of civilian infrastructure.
